The Level 3 Certificate in First Response Emergency Care (RQF) is a regulated and nationally recognised qualification specifically designed for those seeking a career in the emergency services, ambulance service, the event and security medical sector or those who work in high risk workplaces.

Not only is it an ideal alternative to the First Person on Scene Intermediate (FPOSi) qualification but it also forms part of a progressive suite of pre-hospital care qualifications that lead to the QA Level 6 Diploma in Paramedic Practice (RQF).

The QA Level 3 Certificate in First Response Emergency Care (RQF) is one of the few first aid / medical skills qualifications recognised by the Security Industry Authority (SIA).

This qualification is valid for a period of 3 years. Candidates will need to retake the qualification before the certificate expiry date to remain qualified.

Entry requirements:

In order to complete this qualification candidates must:

  • Be a minimum of 17 years of age
  • There are no other formal entry requirements but to benefit from the learning we advise that candidates have a minimum of Level 2 in literacy or numeracy or equivalent

Delivery & assessment methods:

The QA Level 3 Certificate in Response Emergency Care (RQF) is delivered over a 5 day classroom based programme incorporating practical exercises.

Assessment is an ongoing process throughout the course by using questions and answer sessions, 15 practical assessments, formative assessment, theory written assessment and multiple choice question paper.

Course content:

Candidates will gain the knowledge, skills and competencies needed to deal with a range of pre-hospital care emergencies such as; managing a casualty’s airway, catastrophic bleeding, management of fractures and other medical emergencies.
